In The Beginning....... 18th
March 1960 This
was the inaugural meeting of Carrigaline Macra Na Feirme and was held in
the Bandroom, Carrigaline.
It was attended by Mr. Daniel Mullane, B.Agrc.SC.and Mr. Eamon O’Sullivan. The
chair was taken by Mr. Ted O’Leary. Mr. O’Leary opened the meeting by introducing
Mr.Eamon O’Sullivan to the meeting. Mr. O’Sullivan
then outlined the aims of Macra Na Feirme and advised us to form a branch. Mr. Mullane also spoke about Macra,
and filled in any gaps left by Mr. O’Sullivan. After
this, Mr. O’Leary asked us if we wanted to form a branch. Mr. Barry O’
Sullivan proposed and Barry Cogan seconded the motion that we should form a
branch. The next business was the election of officers and this resulted in
the election of: Peter
Thompson, Chairman Sean
Coveney, Honorary Secretary Dermot
O’ Leary, Honorary Treasurer Ted
O’ Leary, President It
was decided to hold a meeting on the 25th March in the Bandroom and that everybody present should bring another
potential member. Mr. Thompson then addressed the meeting and said that he
hoped that our branch would be a strong and successful one. The
chairman then closed the meeting.
