Know
your neighbour – Tracton Abbey Graveyard Cleanup As part of the 2011 Know your neighbour weekend the club
took to the task of cleaning up a local graveyard known as Tracton Abbey just outside Minane
Bridge, It was a dull Friday evening on the 15th of July but that didn’t stop macra!
We came out in force with the local community and had over 30 people there on
the night and within hours we had the graveyard strimmed,
striped of ivy and even had people discovering old tombs. Click here for a list of people
involved. ____________________________________________________________ ·
Tidy
Towns 2011 In May the Club helped out the Carrigaline tidy towns by getting to work on the old ESB site in the town it had become quiet an eye sore at the top of the village and within a few hours we had it transformed by cutting back hedges, picking up rubbish and broken bottles. It was a simple task which made a big difference to the local community and made the old site a lot more pleasant to pass. There was also a BBQ on site and there were Hot dogs for everyone who helped out afterwards. ____________________________________________________________

Christmas
Carols In Douglas Nursing Home It was an Icy Winters night on the 23rd of December when the club travelled to Douglas nursing home to sing Christmas carols to the residents, 13 members braved the icy roads to sing to the best of their abilities. There was a series of Christmas carols sung on the night such as joy to the world, jingle bells, away in a manger and many more. Dan Twomey and Laura Buckley also did Solo’s on the night and Danny Dineen did an instrumental piece on the banjo. The residents loved the night’s entertainment and the chats they had with us. Dan Twomey got lucky and gave out his phone number while Patrick O Sullivan took off across the Snowy Grass in his car at the end of the night. |
